- Create Your Account
- Enter these details at the Create Your Account screen during the setup process:
- Full Name: Digital Signage
- Account Name: digsig
- Password: [see lastpass.com or ask]
- Enter these details at the Create Your Account screen during the setup process:
- Change Computer Name
- Open System Preferences > Sharing
- Set Computer Name to the computers inventory number found on a label on the machine
- Restart the computer
- Configure Remote Access
- Open System Preferences > Sharing
- Check Remote Login
- Check Screen Sharing
- Configure Energy Saver Settings
- Open System Preferences > Energy Saver
- Set Computer sleep to Never
- Set Display sleep to Never
- Uncheck Allow power button to put the computer to sleep
- Check Start up automatically after a power failure
- Configure Desktop
- Open System Preferences > Desktop & Screen Saver
- Set the desktop to a black background color
- Select Solid Colors
- Click on Custom Color...
- Drag the slider all the way down to black
- Configure Screen Saver
- Open System Preferences > Desktop & Screen Saver
- Click the Screen Saver tab
- Set Start screen saver to Never
- Disable Bluetooth
Prevents OS X from automatically starting the Bluetooth Keyboard/Mouse window when no keyboard or mouse is detected- Open System Preferences > Bluetooth
- If Bluetooth is on, Click on Turn Bluetooth Off
- Uncheck Show Bluetooth in menu bar
- Click the Advanced button
- Uncheck Uncheck any of the following options that may appear
- Open System Preferences > Sound
- Click the Output tab
- Select HDMI
- Open Bluetooth Setup Assistant at startup when no input device is present
- Open Bluetooth Setup Assistant at startup when no keyboard is present
- Open Bluetooth Setup Assistant at startup when no mouse or trackpad is present
- Configure Software Updates
- Open System Preferences > Software Update or App Store
- Uncheck Check for updates
- Open System Preferences > Sharing
- Check Remote Login
- Check Remote Management
- Click the Options button
- Check these options under All local users can access this computer to:
- Observe
- Control
- Open and quit applications
- Change settings
- Delete and replace items
- Restart and shut down
- Copy items
- Select Only these users under Allow access for
- Add Dig Sig
- Click the Computer Settings button
- Check VNC veiwers may control screen with password and type in the VNC password (from the password list)or Automatically check for updates
- Install the Digital Signage Client
- Go to the Digital Signage Client Github page
- Download the "Zip" archive
- Unzip the downloaded file. This will create a directory like "biola-digital_signage_mac_client-bc431ca"
- Find the "latest_build" folder and unzip the latest zip file (ex: "v1_1.zip")
- Drag the "DigitalSignage" application to the /Applications directory
- Configure the Digital Signage Client
- Launch the DigitalSignage app (see these instructions if you're prompted with a security error)
- Press 'CMD + ,' to bring up the preferences
- Enter the appropriate display feed in the "Launch URL" settings field. Example: http://apps.biola.edu/signage/signs/cafeteria/display
- Check the "Hide mouse on launch" setting
- Check the "Launch in full screen" setting
- Restart the DigitalSignage app and make sure the slideshow plays in full screen automatically.
- Configure the Dock
- Remove everything from the dock
- Add the Digital Signage client to the dock
- Configure Start Up
- Open System Preferences > Accounts or Users & Groups
- Click Login Options
- Set Automatic login to Dig Sig
- Click the Options... button
- Select Only these network users
- Click Dig SigDigital Signage
- Click Digital Signage > Login Items
- Make sure the Digital Signage client app is in the list of start up items.
