Pharos for Departments

The Purchasing and IT departments are in the process of installing a new print management system called Pharos. Pharos provides Biola with the latest technology for printing, copying, scanning, and faxing, allowing us to fully use our campus resources, as well as upgrade devices to add more features than before. These features will be available to faculty, staff, and students through a unified system deployed campus-wide.

Project Details

What to Expect:

  • Project begins the first week of February and ends by June
  • IT will schedule training and Q&A sessions one department at a time
  • No more copy codes
  • More Konica Minolta copiers on campus
  • Automated Banner billing
  • Detailed usage reports
  • Cost savings for the university
  • Simplified printing and copying experience
  • Consolidate print and copy equipment

Project Benefits

Security - Pharos printing will offer a "Secure Printing" queue, which is not only flexible, but also protects sensitive information. Using the Secure Printing queue allows you to print a document and release it later from any Konica Minolta MFP (Multi-Function Printer) on campus. Additionally, it requires your ID card to be swiped, making it more secure than running to the printer before someone else gets your document.

Manage Printing - Pharos allows us to manage printing, which means print jobs are sent to a central server before being sent to the actual print device. This provides flexibility for how, where, and when you can print and release your document. It also streamlines and updates the accounting methods used for tracking print charges on campus.

Save Money - Using a print management system in conjunction with a Konica Minolta MFP provides cost savings. (See "Dollars and Sense" below.)

Dollars and Sense

Expanding the use of Konica Minolta MFP devices on campus will reduce the cost of printing and copying for the University. Below is an example based on last year's printing at Biola.

LaserB&W Print Job$25,000
LaserColor Print Job

$120,000

Konica MinoltaB&W Print Job

Based on a conservative estimate of 1 million prints.
