KBBI

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) granted Biola the call letters KBBI for its new 107.5 FM broadcasting station in May 1957.

KBBI was launched with Sunday afternoon celebration rally during which Mrs. Martha Snell Nicholson shared her testimony via telephone in bed while a picture of her was flashed on the overhead screen. "As a gesture of appreciation for what she has done and the comfort she has brought to many lives, it was decided to present Mrs. Nicholson with an AM-FM radio so that she would be able to hear Biola's new station," said the Chimes article. Apparently Dr. Louis Talbot went to present Nicholson with the radio - and that very day her other radio had broken irreparably. She was thankful that "the Lord had seen" her need and "fulfilled it immediately." <ref>The Chimes, May 8, 1957, Vol. XX, No. 1</ref>

KBBI powerfully filled such a need for several years that its programming was expanded from Los Angeles into San Diego as well, where its sister Biola station was named KBBW. Both stations remained under the mangagement of Biola until 1970 when the school sold the call letters and FM frequency.
