Ben Homan (Communication '80) is the current president of Food for the Hungry.

Education

After graduating Summa Cum Laude from Biola in 1980, he went on to earn advanced degrees in Organizational Communication from the University of Nebraska – Lincoln and International Affaits from Washington University in St. Louis. He also took courses in Mandarin from Shanghai Normal College.

Career and Nonprofit Management

Homan has had an extensive academic career. He worked with Campus Crusade for Christ before teaching in Chaffey College, Biola University, University of Nebraska, and University of California – Irvine.

From 1988 to 2001, he was Vice President of Covenant Theological Seminary in St. Louis.http://www.helpcommission.gov/Members/BenjaminKHoman/tabid/100/Default.aspx He was also the president of the Francis Schaeffer Institute.

In 2001, he became president of Food for the Hungry, a faith-based nonprofit providing disaster and emergency relief as well as development programs.http://www.biola.edu/undergrad/after/ He has also been the president of AERDO (Association of Evangelical Relief and Development Organizations) since 2005.

From 2004-2006, he served on the Advisory Committee on Voluntary Foreign Aid (ACVFA), which is a branch of the U.S. Agency for International Development.http://www.interaction.org/newswire/detail.php?id=3383

In 2006, he was appointed by President George W. Bush to the Helping to Advance the Livelihood of People Around the Globe (HELP) Commission.http://sourcewatch.org/index.php?title=Benjamin_Homan

Personal Life

Homan has been married to his wife Annette since 1988. They have three children.
