IT is adopting a new way of communicating with Mac users
To protect Biola from cybersecurity threats, Biola Information Technology (IT) is adopting a new way of communicating security upgrades with Mac users.
Starting in June 2022, our systems will automatically start pushing on-screen pop-up notifications to Mac devices that need an operating system upgrade. The notifications will guide the user through the upgrade process. Users can defer the upgrade until the deadline published in the notification. Computers with operating systems that are several versions behind may need to repeat the upgrade process to become fully compliant.

Why is IT doing this?
Every Fall, Apple forces obsolescence on all macOS versions that are three years old and older. Since Biola Macs have a five-year life cycle, we must update the operating system at least once to remain compliant. Obsolete operating systems are a security risk, are not compatible with newer software, and will eventually stop working well.
Our automated notification method, called Nudge, will provide end-users with a safe way to upgrade their own operating systems and improve Biola's ability to stay compliant.
