Biochemistry

The biochemistry major is a unique blend of the biological sciences department and the physical sciences department, combining the most advanced courses in biology with the most rigorous chemistry courses offered within physical science, and culminating in a year-long overview of the field of biochemistry.

Physics

1 year of physics is required--the requirement may be fulfilled by taking physics for non-engineering majors (a one-year set of courses specially designed for biology, biochemistry, and kinesiology majors) or by taking physics for engineering majors (the first year of a 3 semester course for physics and engineering majors which covers mechanics, heat, electricity and magnetism).

PHSC 111, 112 - Physics I and II (for non-engineering majors)

PHSC 111L, 112L - Physics I and II Lab (for non-engineering majors)

OR

PHSC 132, 232 - General Physics I and II

PHSC 132L, 232L - General Physics Lab I and II

Other requirements

6 units of electives - 3 must be upper division biology or chemistry, and 3 can be lower division. These courses may include:

BIOS 322 - Cell & Molecular Biology Lab

BIOS 252, 252L - Human Anatomy Lecture and Lab

BIOS 281, 281L - Physiology Lecture and Lab

Integrative and Special Courses:

PHSC 460 - Physical Science Seminar (a course designed to integrate 4 years of science education with a Biblical worldview)

Past Requirements

From 2003 to 2005: Physical chemistry was not required or offered. Instead 8 elective units (4 of which must be upper division) were required.

From 1997-2003: No changes.
