To set up your new Cisco Unity voicemail box, follow the steps below to completion. The process should take two minutes.

(Note: Use these instructions if you are creating a PIN and greetings for the first time. Click here if you do not remember your voice mail PIN.)

Set up recorded name, personal greeting, and set your access PIN from a Cisco deskphone:

  1. Pick up the handset on your Cisco VoIP phone.
  2. Press the Messages button. 
  3. Enter the default 6-digit* voicemail PIN of 124774, followed by the # key.
  4. Follow the voice prompts, recording your recorded name first, followed by the # key.
  5. Next, record a personal greeting, followed by the # key.
  6. Enter a new 6-digit voicemail PIN, followed by the # key.
  7. Enter your new 6-digit voicemail PIN again, followed by #.
  8. Finally, agree to be listed in directory assistance.
  9. Your Cisco Unity voicemail box is now ready, and you can hang up.

*The Cisco PIN creation process is pretty strict when it comes to numbers used for security.  Try using two of your favorite numbers and add your favorite year to make a new six digit PIN

  1. Click on Search or Call from Cisco Jabber
  2. Enter #4700, followed by the return key.
  3. Enter "*", then enter the extension when prompted for "ID"
  4. Enter the default 6-digit* voicemail PIN of 124774, followed by the # key.
  5. Follow the voice prompts, recording your recorded name first, followed by the # key.
  6. Next, record a personal greeting, followed by the # key.
  7. Enter a new 6-digit voicemail PIN, followed by the # key.
  8. Enter your new 6-digit voicemail PIN again, followed by #.
  9. Finally, agree to be listed in directory assistance.
  10. Your Cisco Unity voicemail box is now ready, and you can hang up.

  1. Pick up the handset on your Cisco VoIP phone.

  4. Enter the default 6-digit voicemail PIN of 124774, followed by the # key.
  5. Follow the voice prompts, recording your recorded name first, followed by the # key.
  6. Next, record a personal greeting, followed by the # key.
  7. Enter a new 6-digit voicemail PIN, followed by the # key.
  8. Enter your new 6-digit voicemail PIN again, followed by #.
  9. Finally, agree to be listed in directory assistance.
  10. Your Cisco Unity voicemail box is now ready, and you can hang up.

Cisco Guidelines: Check for Trivial Passwords

  • The password must be six digits long.
  • The digits are not all the same (for example, 9999).
  • The digits are not consecutive (for example, 1234 or 4321).
  • The password or PIN is not the same as the primary extension that is assigned to the user.
  • The password must not spell their first or last name, their organization or company name, or any other obvious words.
  • The password must not contain their primary extension.
  • The password cannot be the reverse of their primary extension or contain the reverse of their primary extension.
  • The password cannot use the same digits more than twice in a row (for example, 900012).
  • The password cannot be 1-digit increment of a previous password or PIN (for example, 20185 to 20186).
  • The password cannot contain fewer than three different digits (for example, 18181).
