The group was temporarily disbanded during this semester due to scheduling issues, and its place in the calendar was occupied by the meta-Torrey "Plato: The Republic and the Laws."

Traditions

  • Class sessions begin with a devotional prepared by a group member (the students decide at the beginning of the semester which date will be taken by which student), followed by a prayer in which individual students separately pray for needs of other students, and a final group prayer usually led by the instructor.
  • Whenever a new student joins or a new tutor is introduced to the group, the newcomer is expected to give the etymology of their family name, as best as they know it.
  • Afternoon sessions are followed by lunch in the Biola Cafeteria. Guests of the group, including tutors, are encouraged to join.
  • Each student in the group is given a nickname; however, only Daena Wienand may give them.
  • The word "Anathema" is chanted whenever something controversial is said during class.
  • The Anathema Ball is a pink beach ball with the word "Anathema" written on its side in Greek. Should a student accidentally say something heretical (which inevitably happens every session), the ball is thrown at the offender. This may or may not be accompanied by chanting, as above.

Trivia

  • During their initial Freshmen Fall semester, the group had multiple sessions with Dr. John Mark Reynolds; this was apparently noteworthy, since some other groups of that founding did not have class with him until their second semester.
  • The group initially had a rivalry with Boethius during their first year. This dwindled out slowly, though the rivalry between the groups evolved into a friendly rivalry between Fernando Rojas, Jr. and Zachary Saint-Denys Price, who were the only ones left in their respective groups keeping the rivalry going. The rivalry effectively came to an end in the Fall 2008 semester, when several members of Boethius "defected" into Dante.
  • The group also has a mascot, Ragnar Lodbrok, who was christened during the Spring 2007 semester.
