Introduction

This page explains the contents of a audio recording kit, available to borrow from the Tech Commons in the Library.


Purpose

The Zoom H6 handheld recorder (with included accessories) is ideal for field recording and is just as usable in a studio recording environment. Operating as either a standalone handheld field recorder, or a audio interface integrated with your computer’s Digital Audio Workstation, the Zoom H6 will meet nearly any recording needs with astounding quality.

Setup for Basic Use

StepWhat to DoHow It Looks
1 Insert the included AA batteries (if they are not already in the device). 
2Attach the included XY microphone attachment to the top of the device by removing the plastic covers and pinching the silver knobs.

3Power on the device by holding down the power switch on the bottom left side of the H6.

To enable the XY Microphone for recording, click either the “L” or “R” buttons on the device so that the red light above each is illuminated.

You should now be able to see input levels for the microphone on the main screen.

 

5Adjust the volume knob on the microphone itself to a desirable input level.

To record, press the red record button.

You should see a red time readout, which will show you the recording time.

To stop recording, press the red record button again.

7To move your recordings off the device and onto your computer, power the device down and plug it into your computer with the provided USB cable.
8Once plugged in, power the device back on, and select “SD Card Reader” when prompted.

The device will now be viewable on your computer in the same format as an external hard drive or USB drive.

You can pull the audio recordings off and copy them to your personal computer.
