"The Story of BIOLA" is a one-page advertisement for the work of Biola that appeared in the June 1951 issue of The King's Business, p. 36. It has bullet-pointed items about the school under four headings: History, Foundation, Ministries, and Challenge.
The "History" section is an interesting re-telling of Biola's story, showing the simplifications, legends, and factual distortions that had become part of Biola's own sense of history in its self-presentation around mid-century, and the "Foundation" section shows which points of doctrine were especially emphasized at this time.
History
- Born in a prayer meeting in an upstairs room on Main Street in the year 1908, the Bible Institute of Los Angeles is very largely the result of the spiritual vision of two men of God, Mr. Lyman Stewart and Mr. T. C. Horton.
- The present spacious and well-located buildings were completed in 1915 being the gifts of two Christian laymen with exceptional wisdom and foresight.
- A call was extended to Dr. Reuben A. Torrey, noted evangelist and world traeler, first to become Dean of the Institute.
- Since those early days about 10,000 students have been enrolled in the various courses presented.
Foundation
- The Bible Institute of Los Angeles earnestly believes that the Bible is the inspired, inerrant and infallible Word of God, and the only rule of faith and practice for the Christian.
- We believe in the perfect deity of the Lord Jesus Christ including His eternal pre-existence, His virgin birth, His sinless life, His substitutionary death, His bodily resurrection, His present high priestly ministry, His personal return, and His millennial reign.
- We believe that by nature and by practice all all men are hopelessly lost in trespasses and sins. But we believe that all men can be saved by trusting in the finished work of Christ on the cross of Calvary.
- We believe that it is the imperative duty and privilege of every Christian to witness for Christ and to publish abroad the gospel both at home and to the far ends of the earth.
Ministries
- The primary work of the Bible Institute of Los Angeles is the training of students, 900 this year.
- For those who cannot attend the day classes, there is an Evening School.
- A completely equipped Bible Institute in Central China.
- A Summer School is offered to ministers, missionaries and lay workers who desire to add to their knowledge of the Bible.
- A Correspondence School etc.
