Introduction
This page lists the compatibility of common software with Apple's latest macOS Big Sur (11.0) and latest hardware (M1 processor). Users should check all needed business software for OS and hardware compatibility before upgrading to macOS Big Sur or to an M1 computer.
Note: If a software is incompatible with Apple's M1 processor, but is compatible with Rosetta 2, then that software will work on an Apple M1 computer.
Explanation of Terms:
M1: M1 (aka Silicon) is the newest processor type that Apple uses in it's computers. Apple recently shifted to using the M1 processor from Intel processors, which they have used since 2006. This processor change requires software developers to update their software for it to be able to run on an M1 computer. If software is not compatible with M1, check to see if it is compatible with Rosetta 2.
Rosetta 2: Rosetta 2 is an Apple program that allows some applications to run on M1 processor computers even if the software developer has not updated the software to be compatible with that hardware. It emulates what the software needs from the older Intel processor in order to work.
Fully Compatible: The vendor or software user community has confirmed the software supports this category.
Initial Support: The software is in a beginning support phase with the specified Apple category. Users have reported issues with the software (e.g., broken functionality or software crashing).
Not Working: Not Working means the software developer or software user base has reported core software functionality is not working with no current resolution.
Unknown: The software's compatibility with Apple macOS Big Sur or M1 computers is unknown. This is because neither the software developer nor the software's user base has acknowledged it is compatibility.
