Introduction

This page explains the steps for finding which version of the Java software your computer is running.

 


How to Find Your Java Version on a Mac

Computers running Mac OS 10.7.3 or later

1Click the Apple icon in the upper left corner, and select System Preferences.

Click on the Java icon to access the Java Control Panel which will list your Java version.

If you do not see a Java icon under System Preferences, Java 7 or above is not installed.

 
Computers running Mac OS 10.7.2 or earlier

Open Spotlight (click the magnifying glass icon) in the upper right corner, and type “Java Preferences”.

A window will open that lists the different versions of Java you are running.

Under the Version column, you will see the exact release. It should say 1.6.0_35 or above.
