Gary Miller
Over his past thirteen years in senior academic administration at Biola, Dr. Miller served first as vice provost for undergraduate programs and then as provost and senior vice president. Reflecting upon his time at Biola, including the last ten years as provost, Dr. Miller credits all that has been done as only "possible through the creative ideas and diligent efforts of a host of excellent, dedicated and spiritually guided professionals" he has had the pleasure of working alongside.
From about 1999-2009 Biola University extraordinarily grew and strengthened. During this time Dr. Miller provided leadership in many areas and arenas of higher education. Of the 220 full-time teaching faculty currently serving at Biola today, he participated in the hiring of 132, more than half. The quality of Biola's faculty enriched during his tenure with today 74 percent of our current full-time faculty holding terminal degrees in their disciplines. During his tenure, the quality of teaching, scholarship, service and spiritual commitment of faculty has been noteworthy. Dr. Miller had a leadership role in the establishment of the Office of Diversity Leadership as his desire has been to enrich the diversity of Biola's faculty.
New programs launched during his thirteen years of leadership include the MBA degree, the Institute for Spiritual Formation, the Master of Arts in Organizational Leadership degree, the School of Education and extension sites for graduate programs opened in New York, Kiev, Lithuania and Thailand. In addition to Dr. Miller's academic contributions are the four academic journals he assisted in launching thus supporting and enriching the depth of Biola's academic reputation.
Under Dr. Miller's leadership, Biola received maximum accreditation from WASC and reaccreditation in all of our specialized schools and programs. He has also assisted in the campus master plan resulting in new and upgraded facility construction, such as the library, Rose Hall, the Production Center, Crowell School of Business, the gym expansion and the envisioning of the building for Talbot School of Theology.
