Orthodox Controversy
The Orthodox Controversy was a probe that took place between September, 1997 and May, 1998, in which faculty from the Talbot School of Theology investigated whether or not Eastern Orthodox beliefs conformed to Biola's doctrinal statement. After producing an 80-page report, the committee recommended the four faculty/staff members who attended an Antiochan Orthodox church should be able to keep their jobs.
Background
Then-Provost Sherwood Lingenfelter told the L.A. Times that the controversy erupted when students, alumni, pastors and members of the Board of Trustees called into question the religious practices of John Mark Reynolds, Michael Trigg, Robert Llizo and Barry Krammes.
