Paul Wohlgemuth


PAUL WOHLGEMUTH (1927-1987) was born in Fairview, Oklahoma. He received his BA from Tabor College in Hillsboro, Kansas an M.S. in Music from Kansas State Emporia, Kansas, and his Doctor of Musical Arts from the University of Southern California, in L.A. where he studied under Dr. Charles Hurt.

He was a composer and educator, and taught at his alma mater, Tabor College, from 1950-1954. He was on the music faculty at Biola University from 1957?-1962 The Biolan, 1957, p. 83, and then returned to Tabor from 1962 to 1976. His last position was at a professor at Oral Roberts Uiversity in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

in 1971 he served as Chairman-Editor for Worship Hymnal, the official hymnal of the Mennonite-Brethren, the denomination of which he was a member.

He authored a book entitled "Rethinking Church Music" in 1981, contributed a chapter to the Erik Routley festschrift Duty & Delight in 1985, and was a member of the editorial committee that compiled The Worshiping Church - A Hymnal that was published in 1990.
