Craig Detweiler

Craig Detweiler is a recognized author, screenwriter, filmmaker, professor and the former chair of the mass communication department at Biola University. He left this position in 2006 for Fuller Theological Seminary, where he currently serves as the director of the Reel Spirituality Institute and the Associate Professor of Theology and Culture.

Craig grew up in Charlotte, North Carolina. He's a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Davidson College and earned an M.F.A. in film production from the University of Southern California's School of Cinema/TV. He holds a Ph.D. in Theology and Culture from Fuller Theological Seminary.

Detweiler was the screenwriter for the Disney film The Duke as well as Extreme Days. With Barry Taylor, Detweiler co-authored the book A Matrix Of Meanings: Finding God in Pop Culture which has been used as a textbook by many Christian media students and by others seeking to find religion within the entertainment industry. He has often been featured in the media, including the New York Times, CNN, NPR, and ABC.

In 2007, Detweiler completed production on a documentary investigating the clash between the secular and the Christian world entitled Purple State of Mind.
