Bible House of Los Angeles
The Bible House of Los Angeles was a ministry for printing and sending Bibles to foreign countries, especially focusing on Spanish-speaking and dominantly Roman Catholic nations. It was funded by Lyman Stewart and Milton Stewart, and Lyman provided for it in his will.
It was described in the May 1910 Record of Christian Work in this way:
To give the Word of God to Spanish-speaking and other Roman Catholic peoples is the aim of the Bible House of Los Angeles, Cal. The field includes Spain, Mexico, Central and South America (except Brazil), the Philippines, Cuba, and Porto Rico.
Until four years ago the work in Spain was not very extensive, owing to the high duty charged on Bibles sent there. Since that time, however, the printing has been done in that country, and over half a million Testaments and portions of Scripture have been published.
At present some ten or twelve colporteurs are working in Spain, going to the remote places, farmhouses and mountain villages, preaching the gospel, selling Testaments to those who can and will buy, and giving to the poor. The Bible House of Los Angeles is sustained by prayer. Without either private solicitation or public appeal, God has sent funds enough to print and circulate nearly 4,000,000 New Testaments and portions of Scripture, and over 2,500,000 tracts and booklets.
