Dr. James Mohler is the chair of the Department of Biblical and Theological Studies (undergraduate) and is an Associate Professor of Biblical Studies. He joined the Talbot faculty in Fall 2006. Prior to coming to Talbot, Dr. Mohler served as an associate professor of Biblical Studies and Christian Ministries at Trinity College in Deerfield, IL. During his time at Trinity, Dr. Mohler served one year as the interim academic dean of Trinity College and Trinity Graduate School.

Dr. Mohler has more than 20 years of experience in youth ministry through local churches in California and Arizona. Dr. Mohler served as pastor with children and youth at the First Baptist Church of Scottsdale, Arizona from 1986 to 1995. There Dr. Mohler was responsible for children's, senior high, and college ministries.

Dr. Mohler earned his license to preach in 1976 and was ordained in 1986. He ministered in First Baptist Church of Downey, California from 1974 to 1986 first as an intern and later as a pastor, directing the ministries for grades three through eight. Dr. Mohler earned the Doctor of Philosophy and Master of Arts in Christian Education from Talbot School of Theology and the Bachelors for Music Education from Biola College. His areas of expertise include leadership development, youth ministry, Christian education, music and worship leading, camping ministries, and puppetry. Dr. Mohler has written for several publications, including the Christian Education Journal and the Journal of Youth Ministry.

Dr. Mohler and his wife, Miriam, reside in Fullerton, with their two children, Emily & Clayton.
