Mac Lab Finale Licensing Issue Workaround

Mac Lab Finale Licensing Issue Workaround

Introduction

Mac computers in the lower Library Mac lab have licensed copies of Finale for class use. On occasion, Finale will prompt the user to enter a license activation code. When this prompt is ignored, the application will open automatically and appear to run normally. However, when users try to save their work they get an error saying, "Saving and printing have been disabled because your authorization grace period has expired."

The licensing service Finale recommends acknowledged the issue as a bug they can reproduce in their environment as well.

Mac Lab Finale Licensing Issue Workaround

Option 1: Close and Reopen Finale

StepWhat to do
1

On the Authorize Finale pop-up window, click Remind Me Later.

  • The pop-up window will close and the Finale home page will remain.
2On the Finale home page, click the at the top-right to close the window.
3Once the Finale home page window is closed, click Finale on the Apple menu at the top-left of the screen and select Quit Finale.
4Re-open Finale and the licensed program should open and run normally without issue.

Option 2: Delay Opening Finale

The issue users are experiencing is that Finale is opening before the computer is able to get the software license applied to it. Waiting 30 - 60 seconds before opening Finale will give the computer enough time to talk with our licensing server and apply the license before the software is opened.
