Transfer Your Data to a Personal Google Account

Introduction

This page explains how to transfer your data from a Biola Google account to a personal Google account.

Note: Current Biola employees will see an error message and will not be able to use this transfer function. Please refer to the Biola Employee Google Apps Account page for more information.

Before you begin:

  1. Confirm how much storage you’re using.
  2. Create a free personal Google account if you don't already have one.
  3. Upgrade to additional storage space if needed.
  4. Please note that Google transfers all of your content in your Google Drive, including files in the "Shared with Me" section. If someone has shared large files with you, your Google transfer may fail. In this case, please follow the How to download your Google data page to download your data instead of using the transfer tool.

Overview

These steps will transfer the entire contents of your Gmail and/or your Google Drive from your Biola account to a personal Google account.

  1. Go to myaccount.google.com in a private browser window and sign in with your Biola Google account.
  2. Click on Start Transfer.
  3. Enter your personal Google account email address, then click Send Code.
  4. Retrieve the code from your personal Google account in a non-private window.
  5. Enter your verification code and click Verify.
  6. Select the content to transfer and select Start Transfer.
  7. Verify your identity with the username and password for your Biola account.


Detailed Instructions

  1. Open a private window on your browser.

  2. Go to myaccount.google.com.

  3. Click on Go to Google Account on the top right of the screen.



  4. Log in by entering your Biola Google account email address and password.



  5. Click on Start transfer.



  6. Enter your personal Google account email address, then click Send Code.


  7. Open a new browser window, and go to mail.google.com.

  8. Log in to your personal account by entering your email address and password.


    Note: If you are already logged into a different Google account, click on your profile icon on the top-right corner and click on Add another account.



  9. Open an email from Google titled Verify your account, then click on Get confirmation code.



  10. Copy the confirmation code, then go back to the original private browser window. Enter the confirmation code and click Verify.



  11. Select the contents that you would like to transfer, and click Start transfer.
